Paloma Torres
She was born in Mexico City in 1960. She studied a Bachelor of Visual Arts at the National School of Plastic Arts at UNAM, where she also completed a Master in Color Engraving.
She attended the course of Color Gravure, at Atelier 17 of SW Hayter, in Paris, as well as resin courses, a professional engraving workshop with the master Carlos García and, in 2013, Ceramic printing techniques with the Argentine artist Graciela Olio. She has several artistic residencies in Mexico and abroad, among others: the Afelpado Workshop at the Center for the Arts (CaSa) in San Agustín Etla, Oaxaca, Mexico (2013 and 2014), at the Visva Bharati University, Shantiniketan Bengal, Calcutta (2012), with the teacher René Derouin, in Quebec Canada, at the International City of Arts, Paris, France (2000), and at the Museum of Mexican Ceramic Art, in Fuping, Shaanxi, China.
She has more than one hundred group exhibitions and numerous individual exhibitions, the most relevant being those held at: Carrillo Gil Art Museum, Palace of Fine Arts, Amparo Museum in Puebla, Zapopan Art Museum and Federico Silva Museum in San Luis Potosí. He recently exhibited Urban Patterns in Paris, Berlin, Beirut, Doha, Kuwait, Bangkok and San Francisco. In June 2017, she was curator of the Tierras Ambulantes Exhibition at the Mexican Cultural Institute in Washington, DC, a collective in which she also presented her work and is touring various cultural spaces in the United States, the most recent of which is: Newcomb Museum Tulane University, Louisiana.
Among the distinctions that have been conferred her, are the accomplishment of the Commemorative Sculpture for the 700 years of the Helvetian Confederation, in Cumbel, Switzerland stands out; as well as artistic interventions for the Elena Garro Cultural Center and the realization of the external latticework of the Museo de Sitio de Tlatelolco, in Mexico City; in addition to honorable mentions at the IV Ceramic Biennial in Korea and at the Sculpture Triennial in Mexico. In 2015 he participated in the dual year in England with the public piece Building the rain in Canary, Wharf, London, England. In 2017, his sculpture Totem de Ciudad was the piece selected to represent Mexico at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC), to be permanently exhibited at the Park Project in Vietnam.
Her work is part of various public and private collections such as those of the De Young Museum in San Francisco, California; the Mexican Ceramic Art Museum, Fuping, Shaanxi, China; the Daniela Chappard Foundation, Caracas, Venezuela; the Museum of Modern Art, Mexico City; the Manuel Felguérez Museum of Abstract Art, Zacatecas, and the University Museum of Contemporary Art in Mexico City, among others. She has been a member of the Arts and Letters Council at The Mexican Museum in San Francisco, California since 2013. In 2014 she became a member of the International Academy of Ceramics (AIC / IAC) in Geneva, Switzerland.
