If art is sensitivity and sensitivity is consciousness, then it is impossible to ignore the social environment in which we live. The phenomenon of contemporary art has become a fascinating challenge where we see the problems that affect the world today; such as ecological devastation, global warming, the danger of carbon emissions, violence, terrorism, drug trafficking, organised crime, pockets of extreme poverty and lack of education are recurrent themes that are expressed in the different conceptual frameworks of artists around the globe in search of new languages. Contemporary art is often hollow, mute, perhaps expressing nothingness and that is also terrifying.
Ana Gómez de León utilises the concept of anonymity as an expression in our urban culture in her photography; the mask as a veil, which hides a cluster of emotions. Thus, we see our surroundings, the streets, the buildings as multiple drawers, the metro, a dehumanised habitat. However, and as a fissure, its aesthetic sensibility escapes like lightning that illuminates and awakens in us the sense of the poetic thing in our urban culture.
